Matthew ~ ማቴዎስ: Gift of God / EBD; The name “Matthew” means given; a reward / HBN, (ማቴ 9:9)

The name ‘Matthew’ is derived from ‘Matiw’ (ማቲው) ፥ the root words for ‘ማቴዎስ’ are ‘Mati’ (ማቲ) and ‘Was’ (ዋስ) / Ibid.

He was the son of Alphaeus, and was a publican or tax-gatherer at Capernaum, “And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: ...” (Mat 9:9)

ማቴዎስ ~Matthew: ማቲ ዋስ፣ ማቲው፣ ማቲ፣ የብዙሃን ዋስ፣ ብዙዎችን የሚያድን ማለት ነው።

‘ማቲ’ እና ‘ዋስ’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

ከአራቱ ሁለቱ ወንጌላውያን አንዱ፥ ቀራጩ ማቴዎስ፥ “ኢየሱስም ከዚያ አልፎ በመቅረጫው ተቀምጦ የነበረ ማቴዎስ የሚባል አንድ ሰው አየና...” (ማቴ 9:9)
