Mary ~ ማርያ፣ ማርያም:  The name “Mary” means same as Miriam / HBN, (ማቴ 2:11፣ ሥራ 1:14) ፥ (ሮሜ 16:6)

The mother of Jesus, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: ...” (Mat 2:11; Act 1:14)

Other people with the same name are: Mary Magdalene, i.e., Mary of Magdala (Luk 8:3); Mary the sister of Lazarus (Joh 11:20, 31, 33), Mary brought "a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly (Mat 26:6; Mar 14:3; Joh 12:2, 3); Mary the wife of Cleopas is mentioned (Joh 19:25) She was that "other Mary" who was present with Mary of Magdala at the burial of our Lord (Mat 27:61; Mar 15:47); (Mat 28:1; Mar 16:1; Luk 24:1); Mary the mother of John Mark (Col 4:10), (Act12:12) whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.A Christian at Rome who treated Paul with special kindness (Rom 16:6); “And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron....” (Ex 15:20); The sister of Moses and Aaron (Ex 2:4-10; 1 Chr 6:3)

ማርያም ~Mary, Miriam: መሪ፣ መሐሪ፣ መሪ እማ፣ የመጀመሪያዋ እናት፣ ቀዳሚዋ እመቤት ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ማሪያም፣ ማርያ]

‘መሪ’ እና ‘እማ’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሰባት ሰዎች አሉ፡

I.                        ማርያም /Mary:

1.                  የጌታ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ እናት ማርያም፥ “ወደ ቤትም ገብተው ሕፃኑን ከእናቱ ከማርያም ጋር አዩት...” (ማቴ 2:11፣ ሥራ 1:14)

2.                  መግደላዊት ማርያም፥ “እነርሱም ሰባት አጋንንት የወጡላት መግደላዊት የምትባል ማርያም፥” (ሉቃ 8:3)

3.                  የማርታና  የአልዓዛር እህት ማርያም፥ “ማርታም ኢየሱስ እንደ መጣ በሰማች ጊዜ ልትቀበለው ወጣች፤ ማርያም ግን በቤት ተቀምጣ ነበር።” (ዮሐ 11:20፣ 31፣ 33)

4.                  የድንግል ማርያም እህት ፥ የቀለዮጳም ሚስት ማርያም፥ “ነገር ግን በኢየሱስ መስቀል አጠገብ እናቱ፥ የእናቱም እኅት፥ የቀለዮጳም ሚስት ማርያም፥ መግደላዊትም ማርያም ቆመው ነበር።” (ዮሐ19:25) ፣ (ማቴ 27:61፣ ማር 15:47)

5.                  የማርቆስ እናት ማርያም፥ “... እጅግ ሰዎች ተከማችተው ይጸልዩበት ወደ ነበረው ማርቆስ ወደ ተባለው ወደ ዮሐንስ እናት ወደ ማርያም ቤት መጣ።” (ሥራ 12:12)

II.                        ማርያም /Miriam:

1.                  የአሮን እኅት ማርያም፥ (ዘጸ15:20) ፣ “የእንበረምም ልጆች አሮን፥ ሙሴ፥ ማርያም።” (1 ዜና 6:3)

2.                  የዕዝራ ልጅ፥ የዬቴር ልጅ ማርያም፥ (1 ዜና 4:17)
