Mamre ~ መምሬ: manliness / SBD, (ዘፍ 14:13፣ 24)

The name ‘Mamre’ is derived from ‘Me’Meri’ (መ’መሪ፣ መምር) ፥ the meaning is ‘leader, teacher, trainer, director…’ / Ibid.

An Amoritish chief in alliance with Abraham, “And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.” (Gen 14:13, 24)

መምሬ ~Mamre: መመሪ፣ መምሬ፣ መምህር፣ መሪ፣ አስተማሪ ማለት ነው።

‘መሪ’ ከሚለው ቃል የመጣ ስም ነው።

አብርሃም በኬብሮን ያረፈበት የቦታ ስም፥ “...ለአብራምም ነገረው እርሱም የኤስኮል ወንድምና የአውናን ወንድም በሆነ በአሞራዊ መምሬ የአድባር ዛፍ ይኖር ነበር ...” (ዘፍ 14:13፣ 24)
