The name ‘Luz’ is derived from ‘Lewz’ (ለውዝ) ፥ the meaning is ‘a nut-bearing tree’ / Ibid.

The ancient name of a royal Canaanitish city near the site of Bethel, “And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.” (Gen 28:19; 35:6); (Jos 18:13)
