The name ‘Salem’ is derived from ‘Selam’ (ሰላም) ፥ the meaning is ‘peace’ / Ibid

The place of which Melchizedek was king, “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.”, “To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;” (Gen 14:18; Ps 76:2; Heb 7:1, 2)

ሳሌም ~Salem, Salim: ሳሌም፣ ሰላም፣ መረጋጋት፣ ጸጥታ፣ ደህንነት ማለት ነው።

‘ሰላመ’ ከሚለው ግስ የመጣ ስም ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ሰሎሜ፣ ሰሎም፣ ሴሌሚ፣ ሴሌም፣ ሺሌም]

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሁለት ቦታዎች አሉ።

I.                        ሳሌም /Salem: ካህኑ ንጉሥ መልከጻዲቅ ያስተዳድረው የነበር አገር፥ “የሳሌም ንጉሥ መልከ ጼዴቅም እንጀራንና የወይን ጠጅን አወጣ ...” (ዘፍ 14:18)

II.                        ሳሌም /Salim: ነብዮ ዮሐንስ ያጠምቅበት የነበረ አካባቢ የቦታ ስም፥ (ዮሐ 3:23)
