Sabbath ~ ሰንበት: (Heb. verb shabbath, meaning "to rest from labour") / EBD; the day of rest / SBD, (ዘጸ 16:22-30)

The word ‘Sabbath’ is derived from ‘Sebat’ (ሰባት) ፥ The root words are ‘Saba’ (ሳባ) and ‘Biet’ (ቤት) ፥ The meaning is ‘house of saba, seven’/ Ibid.

The name is applied to divers great festivals, but principally and usually to the seventh day of the week, “And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.” (Ex 16:22-30)

ሰንበት ~Sabbath: ሰብ ቤት፣ ሰባት፣ ሳባ ቤት፣ቤተ ሳባ፣ ቤተ ሰብ ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስም- ሰበንያ፣ ሰብታ፣ ሳባ፣ ሳባ ሰዎች፣ ሳባታይ፣ ሳባጥ፣ ሳቤህ፣ ሳቤዔ፣ ሴባ፣ ሤባ፣ ጸባዖት]

Sabbath- ‘ሰብ’ እና ‘ቤት’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

[ሰብኣት፥ ሰዎች፣ ወገኖች ፣የቅርብ ዘመዶች / ኪወክ]

[ሰብአ ቤት ፥ ቤተ ሰብ ዘመድ ፥ ወገን ነገድ፥ ሎሌ፥ ገረድ... / ደተወ / አ]

[በእብራይስጥ የቃሉ ትርጉም ማቆም ፡ መተው ማለት ነው / መቅቃ]

[እረፍት፣ የዕረፍት ቀን ... ተብሎም ይተረጎማል።]

ሰባተኛው ቀን፥ “እርሱም፦ እግዚአብሔር የተናገረው ይህ ነው። ነገ ዕረፍት፥ ለእግዚአብሔርም የተቀደሰ ሰንበት ነው የምትጋግሩትን ጋግሩ፥ የምትቀቅሉትንም ቀቅሉ፥ የተረፈውን ሁሉ ለነገ እንዲጠበቅ አኑሩት አላቸው።” (ዘጸ 16:22-30)
