Phinehas ~ ፊንሐስ: “Phinehas” means mouth of brass / SBD, (ዘጸ 6:25)

The root words for ‘Phinehas’ are ‘A’fe’ (አ’ፈ) and ‘Nhas’  (ንሐስ) ፥ The meaning is ‘well spoken’  / Ibid.

Son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron, “And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites ...” (Ex 6:25)

Other people with the same name are: The Second son of Eli, (1 Sam 1:3; 2:34; 4:4, 11, 17, 19; 14:3), Phinehas was killed with his brother by the Philistines when the ark was captured.A Levite of Ezra's time (Ezra 8:33), unless the meaning be that Eleazar was of the family of the great Phinehas.

ፊንሐስ ~Phinehas: ፈንሐስ፣ አፈ ንሐስ፣ ንግግር አዋቂ፣ መልካም ቃል ማለት ነው።

‘አፍ’ እና ‘ንሐስ’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

I.                        የአሮን ልጅ የአልዓዛር ልጅ፥ ፊንሐስ፥ “የአሮንም ልጅ አልዓዛር ከፉትኤል ልጆች ሚስት አገባ፥ እርስዋም ፊንሐስን ወለደችለት። እነዚህ ..." (ዘጸ 6:25)፣

II.                        የዔሊ ልጅ፥ ፊንሐስ፥ (1 ሳሙ 1:3፣ 2:34፣ 4:4፣ 11፣ 17፣ 19፣ 14:3)፣ “... ከእርሱም ጋር የፊንሐስ ልጅ አልዓዛር ነበረ ከእነርሱም ጋር ሌዋውያን የኢያሱ ልጅ ዮዛባትና የቢንዊ ልጅ ኖዓድያ ነበሩ።” (ዕዝ 8:33)

ፊኮል ~Phichol: አፈ ቃል፣ ንግግር፣ መልእክት፣ ትእዛዝ ማለት ነው።

‘አፍ’ እና ‘ቃል’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

በአብርሃም ዘመን በአቢሜሌክ መንግስት ውስጥ የነበረ፣ ሠራዊቱ አለቃ፥ “በዚያም ዘመን አቢሜሌክ ከሙሽራው ወዳጅ ከአኮዘትና ከሠራዊቱ አለቃ ከፊኮል ጋር አብርሃምን አለው። በምታደርገው ሁሉ እግዚአብሔር ከአንተ ጋር ነው” (ዘፍ 21:22፣ 32)
