Gilgal ~ ጌልገላ: The name “Gilgal” means wheel; rolling; heap / HBN, (ኢያ 5፡9)

The name ‘Gilgal’ is derived from ‘Glgal’ (ግልግል) ፥ the root word is ‘Gelagele’ (ገላገለ)

The meaning is ‘getting relief from a heavy load’/ Ibid.

Where the Israelites first encamped after crossing the Jordan, “And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you; Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.”  (Jos 5:9)

ጌልገላ ~Gilgal: ጌልገላ፣ ግልግል፣ ረፍት፣ ሸክምን ማቅለል፣ ከባርነት መላቀቅ፣ነጻነትን ማግኘት ማለት ነው።

Gilgal- ‘ግልግል’ ከሚለው ቃል የተገኘ ስም ነው። የቃሉ ምንጭ ‘ገላገለ’ የሚለው ግስ ነው።

·                     ከግብጽ ወጥተው ዮርዳኖስን ፈጽመው ሲሻገሩ የሰፈሩበት ቦታ፥ “እግዚአብሔርም ኢያሱን። ዛሬ የግብፅን ነውር ከእናንተ ላይ አንከባልያለሁ አለው፤ ስለዚህ የዚያ ስፍራ ስም እስከ ዛሬ ድረስ ጌልገላ ተብሎ ተጠራ።” (ኢያ 5፡9)
