Gaza ~ ጋዛ: “Gaza” means the fortified; the strong, / SBD, (ዘፍ 10:19)

The name ‘Gaza’ is derived from ‘Geza’ (ገዛ) ፥ the meaning is ‘controlled, ruled, governed...’ / Ibid.

One of the five chief cities of the Philistines, “And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza...” (Gen 10:19)

‘ገዛ’ ከሚለው ቃል የተገኘ ስም ነው።

I.                        ጋዛ /Gaza: የከነዓናውያን ወሰን፥ ከፍልስጤማውያን ከተሞች አንዱ፥ “የከነዓናውያንም ወሰን ከሲዶን አንሥቶ ወደ ጌራራ በኩል ሲል እስከ ጋዛ ድረስ ነው ወደ ሰዶምና ወደ ገሞራ፥ ወደ አዳማና ወደ ሰቦይም በኩልም ሲል እስከ ላሣ ድረስ ነው።” (ገላ 10:19)

II.                        ጋዛ /Gazathites: የጋዛ ነዋሪዎች፥ “በግብፅ ፊት ካለው ከሺሖር ወንዝ ጀምሮ በሰሜን በኩል እስካለችው የከነዓናውያን ሆና እስከ ተቈጠረችው እስከ አቃሮን ዳርቻ ድረስ፥ የጋዛ፥ የአዛጦን፥ የአስቀሎና፥ የጌት፥ የአቃሮን፥ አምስቱ የፍልስጥኤማውያን መኳንንት” (ኢያ 13፡3)
