The name ‘Gibeon’ is derived from ‘Gebawen’ (ገባዎን) ፥ the meaning is ‘market place’ / Ibid.

One of the four, cities of the Hivites, the inhabitants of which made a league with Joshua, “And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,” (Jos 9:3-15), (Jos 10:2)

ገባዖን ~Geba, Gibeon: ገብ፣ ጉበን፣ በር፣ የከተማ መግቢያ፣ ኬላ፣ ድንበር፣ ገበያ፣ ግባት፣ ዳገታማ ቦታ ማለት ነው። [ተዛማች ስሞች- ጊብዓ፣ ጌቤ]

‘ጉበን’ ከሚለው ቃል የተገኘ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሁለት ቦታዎች አሉ።

I.                        ገባዖን /Geba:የብንያም ከተማ፥ “ዳዊትም እግዚአብሔር እንዳዘዘው አደረገ ከገባዖንም እስከ ጌዝር ድረስ ፍልስጥኤማውያንን መታ።” (2 ሳሙ 5፡25) ፣ (2 ነገ 23:8፣ ነህ 11:31)
