Hodijah ~ ሆዲያ: Majesty of Jehovah / EBD, (ነህ 8፡7)

The name ‘Hodaviah’ is derived from ‘Wde’ (ውደ) and ‘Yah’ (ያህ) ፥ the meaning is ‘addorn by Jehovah’ / Ibid.

One of the Levites who assisted Ezra in expounding the law, “Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah ... the people stood in their place.” (Neh 8:7; 9:5)

The other person with the same name: A Levite who sealed the covenant (Neh 10:18)

ሆዲያ ~Hodijah: ሆደያ፣ ውደ ህያው፣ ጌታ የወደደው ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ሆዳይዋ፣ ሆድ]

‘ውደ’ እና ‘ህያው’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሦስት ሰዎች አሉ።

1.                  ከዕዝራ ጋር ሕዝቡን ሕግ ያስተምሩ ከነበሩ ሌዋውያን አንዱ፥ ሆዲያ፥ “...ሆዲያ፥ መዕሤያ፥ ... ሌዋውያኑም ሕጉን ያስተውሉ ዘንድ ሕዝቡን ያስተምሩ ነበር ...”(ነህ 8፡7)

2.                  ሌዋዊ፥ ሆዲያ፥ “ዘኩር፥ ሰራብያ፥ ሰበንያ፥ ሆዲያ፥ ባኒ፥ ብኒኑ።” (ነህ 10:13)

3.                  በነህምያ ዘመን የቃል ኪዳኑን ደብዳቤ ካተሙት፥ ሆዲያ ፥ “ዓዙር፥ ሆዲያ፥ ሐሱም፥ ቤሳይ፥” (ነህ 10:18)
