‘ሐና’ እና ‘ኤል’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው። ትርጉሙ ‘ሐና’ ማለት በረከት፣ ቸራነት፣ ስጦታ ማለት ሲሆን፥ ‘ኤል’ ደግሞ ኃያል አምላክ ነው። ስለዚህ ‘ሐኒኤል’ የሚለው የበረከት አምላክ፣ የቸርነት ጌታ፣ የእግዚአብሔር ሥጦታ ተብሎ ይተረጎማል።
