The name ‘Hebrew’ is derived from ‘Hbr’ (ህብር) ፥ the root word is ‘Abere’ (አበረ) ፥ the meaning is ‘to associate, cooprate...’ / Ibid

This word first occurs as given to Abram by the Canaanites, “And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our ...” (Gen 41:12)

ዕብራዊ ~Hebrew: ሂብሪው፣ ዕብር፣ ዕብራዊ፣ እብራይስጥ ማለት ነው።

‘ህብር’ ከሚለው ቃል የመጣ የነገድ ስም ነው።

አብራም ዕብራዊ ተብሎ ተጠራ፥ “አንድ የሸሸ ሰውም መጣ፥ ለዕብራዊው ለአብራምም ነገረው እርሱም ...” (ዘፍ 14:13)

v    ዮሴፍ ዕብራዊ ተብሎ ተጠራ፥  “በዚያም የዘበኞቹ አለቃ ባሪያ የሆነ አንድ ዕብራዊ ጕልማሳ ከእኛ ጋር ነበረ ...” (ዘፍ 41፡12)
