Hodaviah ~ ሆዳይዋ: Praise ye Jehovah / EBD; “Hodaviah” means Praise ye Jehovah / SBD, (1 ዜና 5፡24)

The name ‘Hodaviah’ is derived from ‘hodeyah’(ሆደያህ)፥ the root words are ‘Wde’ (ውደ) and ‘Yah’ (ያህ) ፥ the meaning is ‘addorn by Jehovah’ / Ibid.

A man of Manasseh, one of the heads of the half tribe on the east of Jordan, “... Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.” (1 Chr 5:24)

Other people with the same name are: A man of Benjamin, son of Has-senuah (1 Chr 9:7); A Levite, who seems to have given his name to an important family in the tribe (Ezr 2:40)

ሆዳይዋ ~Hodaiah, Hodaviah: ሆደያ፣ ውደ ህያው፣ ጌታ የወደደው፣ የእግዚአብሔር ወዳጅ ማለት ነው። ‘ምስጉን’ ተብሎም ይተረጎማል። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ሆዲያ፣ ሆድ]

‘ውደ’ እና ‘ያህ’ (ህያው) ከሚሉ ቃላት የተገኘ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ አራት ሰዎች አሉ።

I.                        ሆዳይዋ /Hodaiah: የኤልዮዔናይ ልጅ፥ ሆዳይዋ፥ “የኤልዮዔናይም ልጆች ሆዳይዋ፥ ኤልያሴብ...” (1 ዜና 3፡24)

II.                        ሆዳይዋ /Hodaviah:-

1.                  ከአባቶቻቸውም ቤቶች አለቆች አንዱ፥ ሆዳይዋ፥ (1 ዜና 5፡24)

2.                  የብንያም ወገን የሐሰኑ ልጅ ፥ ሆዳይዋ፥ (1 ዜና 9:7)

3.                  የባቢሎን ንጉሥ ናቡከደነፆር ከማረካቸው ምርኮኞች ወደ ኢየሩሳሌምና ወደ ይሁዳ ወደ እየከተማቸው ከተመለሱ፣ የሌዊ ወገን የሆነ፥ ሆዳይዋ፥ (ዕዝ 2:40)
