The name ‘Uri’ is derived from ‘Uri’ (ኡሪ) ፥ the meaning is ‘towads the east’ / Ibid.

The father of Bezaleel, one of the architects of the tabernacle, “See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:” (Ex 31:2; 35:30; 38:22; 1 Chr 2:20; 2 Chr 1:5)

ኡሪ ~Uri: ኡሪ፣ ኡሬ፣ የፀሃይ መውጫ፣ ብርሃናማ፣ ምሥራቃዊ የኡር አገር ሰው ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስም- ዑር]

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሦስት ሰዎች አሉ።

1.                  የባስልኤል አባት ሁኖ፥ የሆር ልጅ፥ “እይ ከይሁዳ ነገድ የሚሆን የሆር የልጅ ልጅ፥ የኡሪ ልጅ ባስልኤልን በስሙ ጠርቼዋለሁ።” (ዘጸ 31:2)

2.                  በዐግ አገር ላይ ብቻውን ሹም የነበረ፥ የጌበር አባት፥  (1 ነገ 4:19)

3.                  በዕዝራ ዘመን፣ ሚስቶቻቸውን ይፈቱ ዘንድ እጃቸውን ከሰጡ፥ የቤተ መቅደስ ጠባቂ የነበረ፥ “...ከበረኞችም፤ ሰሎም፥ ጤሌም፥ ኡሪ።” (ዕዝ 10:24)
