The name ‘Simon’ is derived from ‘Sman’ (ስማን) ፥ the meaning is ‘hear, obey’ / Ibid.

Simon Magus, a Samaritan living in the apostolic age, distinguished as a sorcerer or "magician," from his practice of magical arts, “But there was a certain man, called Simon ...” (Act 8:9)

II.                        ስምዖን /Simeon: ልያ ለያዕቆብ የወለደችለት ልጅ፥ “ደግሞም ፀነሰች፥ ወንድ ልጅንም ወለደች እኔ እንደ ተጠላሁ እግዚአብሔር ስለ ሰማ ይህን ደገመኝ አለች ስሙንም ስምዖን ብላ ጠራችው።” (ዘፍ 29:33)

III.                        ስምዖን /Simon:

1.                  ቀነናዊውም ስምዖን ፥ (ማቴ 10:4)

2.                  የጌታ ወንድም ተብሎ የተጠቀሰው የያቆብና የዮሳ ወንድም፥ “ይህ የጸራቢ ልጅ አይደለምን? እናቱስ ማርያም ትባል የለምን? ወንድሞቹስ ያዕቆብና ዮሳ ስምዖንም ይሁዳም አይደሉምን?” (ማቲ13:55) ፣ “ይህስ ጸራቢው የማርያም ልጅ የያቆብም የዮሳም የይሁዳም የስምዖንም ወንድም አይደለምን? እኅቶቹስ በዚህ በእኛ ዘንድ አይደሉምን? አሉ …” (ማር 6:3)

3.                  ጌታን ተቀብሎ ያስተናገደ ፥ ለምጻሙ ስምዖን፥ (ማቴ 26:6)
