Shophan ~ ሽፋን: hidden, or hollow / EBD, (ዘኁ 32:35)

The name ‘Shophan’ is derived from ‘Shefn’ (ሽፍን) ፥ the root word is ‘Shefene’ (ሸፈነ) ፥ the meaning is ‘cover’ / Ibid.

One of the fortified towns on the east of Jordan which were taken possession of and rebuilt by the tribe of Gad (Num 32:35)

ሽፋን ~Shophan: ሽፋን፣ አጥር፣ ሸፈነ፣ መሸፈን፣ መጋረድ፣ መከለል፣ መደበቅ ማለት ነው።

‘ሸፈነ’ ከሚለው  ግስ የተገኘ የቦታ ስም ነው።

ከዮርዳኖስ በስተምሥራቅ፥ የጋድ ልጆች ከሰሩባዋቸው የተመሸጉ ከተሞች፥ “ዓጥሮትሽፋንን፥ ኢያዜርን፥ ዮግብሃን፥” (ዘኁ 32:35)
