Doeg- ‘ደግ’ ከሚለው ቃል የተገኘ ስም ነው።

የሳኦል የእረኞቹ አለቃ የነበረ፥ “በዚያም ቀን ከሳኦል ባሪያዎች አንድ ሰው በዚያ በእግዚአብሔር ፊት ተገኝቶ ነበር ስሙም ኤዶማዊው ዶይቅ ነበረ፥ ለሳኦልም የእረኞቹ አለቃ ነበረ።” (1 ሳሙ 21፡7)
