The name ‘Bethemek’ is derived from ‘Biet’ (ቤት) and ‘A’Meq’ (አ‘መቅ) ፥ the meaning is ‘house of deepness’ / Ibid.

A place on or near the border of Asher, on the north side of which was the ravine of Jiphthah-el, “...to the valley of Jiphthahel toward the north side of Bethemek, and Neiel, and goeth out to Cabul on the left hand,” (Jos 19:27)
