Beth-el ~ ቤቴል: “Bethel” means the house of God / SBD, (ዘፍ 28፡19)

The name ‘Beth-el’ is derived from two words ‘Biet’ (ቤት) and ‘El’ (ኤል) ፥ the meaning is ‘house of the almighty’ / Ibid.

It was originally the royal Canaanite city of Luz; “And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.” (Gen 28:19)

ቤቴል ~Beth-el, Bethuel: ቤተ ኤል፣ ቤቴል፣ የአምላክ ቤት፣ የጸሎት ቤት ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- በቱል፣ ቤቱኤል፣ ቢትያ፣ ባቱኤል፣ ባይት፣ ቤት፣ ቤትኤጼል፣ ቤትጹር]

‘ቤት’ እና ‘ኤል’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተገኘ ስም ነው።

I.                        ቤቴል /Beth-el:

1.                  አብርሃም ወደ አዜብ ባደረገው ጉዞ ያለፈበት የቦታ ስም፥ “ከዚያም በቤቴል ምሥራቅ ወዳለው ተራራ ወጣ፥ በዚያም ቤቴልን ...” (ዘፍ 12:8)

2.                  ሎዛ ይባል የነበረ፥ በያቆብ ቤቴል ተብሎ የተሰየመ የቦታ ስም፥ “ያዕቆብም ያንን ስፍራ ቤቴል ብሎ ጠራው አስቀድሞ ግን የዚያች ከተማ ስም ሎዛ ነበረ።” (ዘፍ 28፡19)

II.                        ቤቴል /Bethuel:  “በቤቴል ለነበሩ፥ በራሞት በደቡብ ለነበሩ” (1 ሳሙ30:27)
