The name ‘Jephthae’ is derived from ‘Yftah’ (ይፍታህ) ፥ the root word is ‘Feta’ (ፈታ) ፥ the meaning is ‘May the lord sets free’ / Ibid.

The Greek form of the name JEPHTHAH, “And what shall I more say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets” (Heb 11:32)

‘ይፍታ’ ከሚለው ቃል የመጣ ስም ነው። የቃሉ ምንጭ ‘ፈታ’ የሚለው ቃል ነው።

I.                        ዮፍታሔ /Jephthae: ሐዋርያው ጳውሎስ ለአይሁዳውያን በላከው ደብዳቤ የጠቀሰው፣ የገለዓድ ልጅ፥ “እንግዲህ ምን እላለሁ፤ ስለ ጌዴዎንና ስለ ባርቅ ስለ ሶምሶንም ስለ ዮፍታሔም ስለ ዳዊትና ስለ ሳሙኤልም ስለ ነቢያትም እንዳልተርክ ጊዜ ያጥርብኛልና።” (ዕብ 11፡32)
