Japheth ~ ያፌት: Wide spreading: "God shall enlarge Japheth"/ EBD; the name “Japhet” means enlarged; fair; persuading / HBN, (ዘፍ 9፡27)

The name ‘Japheth’ is derived from ‘Yfta’ (ይፍታ) ፥ the root word is ‘Feta’ (ፈታ) ፥ the meaning is ‘freed, released, expand, extend…’ / Ibid.

“God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.” (Gen 9:27)

ያፌት ~Japhet: ያፌት፣ ይፍታ፣ ይፈታ፣ የተፈታ፣ የተለቀቀ፣ የተስፋፋ ማለት ነው።

‘ፈታ’ ከሚለው ቃል የመጣ ስም ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ኤፍታህ፣ ይፍታሕ፣ ይፍታሕኤል፣ ዮፍታሔ፣ ፈታያ]

·                     የኖኅ ልጅ፥ “ኖኅም የአምስት መቶ ዓመት ሰው ነበረ ኖኅም ሴምን ካምን ያፌትንም ወለደ፥” (ዘፍ 5፡32)

·                     “እግዚአብሔርም ያፌትን ያስፋ፥ በሴምም ድንኳን ይደር ከነዓንም ለእነርሱ ባሪያ ይሁን” (ዘፍ 9፡27)
