Jacob ~ ያዕቆብ: one who follows on another's heels; supplanter / EBD, (ዘፍ 25:26)

The name ‘Jacob’ is derived from ‘Yaqb’ (ያቅብ) ፥ the root word is ‘Aqebe’ (አቀበ) ፥ the meaning is ‘to prevent, stop from going...’/ Ibid.

ያዕቆብ ~Jacob: ያቆብ፣ ያቅብ፣ ያስቀር፣ ይጠብቅ፣ ያግድ፣ ይከልክል ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ያቆብ፣ ያዕቆባ]

‘አቀበ’ ከሚለው ግስ የተገኘ ስም ነው።

[ትርጉሙ “ተረከዝን ይይዛል” ማለት ነው / መቅቃ]

የይስሐቅ ልጅ፥ “ከዚያም በኋላ ወንድሙ ወጣ፥ በእጁም የዔሳውን ተረከዝ ይዞ ነበር ስሙም ያዕቆብ ተባለ። እርስዋ ልጆችን በወለደቻቸው ጊዜ ይስሐቅ ስድሳ ዓመት ሆኖት ነበር:” (ዘፍ 25፡26)
