Israel ~ እስራኤል: The name “Israel” means who prevails with God / HBN, (ዘፍ 32፡28)

The root words for ‘Israel’ are ‘E’Sra’ (እ’ሥራ) and ‘El’ (ኤል) ፥ the meaning is ‘exertion of the almighty’/ Ibid.

The name given, to Jacob, “And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” (Gen 32:28)

እስራኤል ~Israel: እሥራ ኤል፣ ሥራ ኤል፣ የአምላክ ሥራ ማለት ነው።

‘ሥራ’ እና ’ኤል’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

[ትርጓሜውም ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር ይታገላል ያሸንፋልም ማለት ነው / መቅቃ]

የይስሐቅ ልጅ፣ የያዕቆብ ሁለተኛ ስም፥ “አለውም፦ ከእንግዲህ ወዲህ ስምህ እስራኤል ይባል እንጂ ያዕቆብ አይባል ከእግዚአብሔር ከሰውም ጋር ታግለህ አሸንፈሃልና” (ዘፍ 32፡28)
