Ishtob ~ ጦብ: “Ishtob” means men of Tob / SBD, (2 ሳሙ 10፡6፣ 8)

The name ‘Ishtob’ is derived from ‘Yeshi’ (የሽ) and ‘Tsubi’ (እ’ጹብ) ፥ the meaning is ‘goodness of thousands’ / Ibid.

One of the small Syrian kingdoms which together constituted Aram, “ And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob, …and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.” (2 Sam 10:6, 8)

ጦብ ~Ishtob, Tob: ጡብ፣ ጹብ፣ ውብ፣ መልካም፣ ቅዱስ ማለት ነው። [አኪጦብ፣ ጦብያ፣ጦባዶንያ]

Ishtob- ‘ሽህ’ እና ‘ጹብ’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

I.                        ጦብ /Ishtob: የአገር ስም፥ “የአሞን ልጆች በዳዊት ዘንድ እንደተጠሉ ባዩ ጊዜ፥ ... ከጦብም አሥራ ሁለት ሺህ ሰዎች ቀጠሩ።” (2 ሳሙ 10፡6፣8)

II.                        ጦብ /Tob: የልዩ ሴት ልጅ ነህና በአባታችን ቤት አትወርስም ብለው ዮፍታሔን ሲያሳድዱት የሸሸበት አገር፥ (መሣ 11:3፣ 5)
