Barsabas ~ በርስያ: son of Saba, the surname / EBD, (ሥራ 1፡23)

The root words for ‘Barsabas’ are ‘Bar’ (በር) and ‘Saba’ (ሳባ) ፥ The meaning is ‘bethsaba or son of sheba’ / Ibid.

The surname of Joseph, also called Justus; “And they appointed two; Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.” (Act 1:23)

በርስያ ~Barsabas: በርሳባ፣ ቤተ ሳባ፣ ሳባዊ፣ የሳባ ልጅ፣ የሰው ልጅ ማለት ነው።

Barsabas- ‘በር’ እና ‘ሳባ’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሁለት ሰዎች አሉ።

1.                  የዮሴፍ ሌላ ስም፥ በይሁዳ ፈንታ ለመሾም ከማትያስ ጋር እጣ የተጣጣለ፥ “ኢዮስጦስም የሚሉትን በርስያን የተባለውን ዮሴፍንና ማትያስን ሁለቱን አቆሙ።” (ሥራ 1፡23)

2.                  የሐዋርያው ይሁዳ ሌላ ስም፥ “...እነርሱም በወንድሞች መካከል ዋናዎች ሆነው በርስያን የተባለው ይሁዳና ሲላስ ነበሩ።” (ሥራ 15:22)
