አብያታር ~Abiathar: አብ ዘር፣ የአባት ወገን፣ ታላቅ ዘር፣ ታላቅ ወገን፣ ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- አቢዔዜር፣ አቢዔዝር]

‘አብ’ እና ‘ዘር’ ከሚሉ ሁለት ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

ካህኑ የአቢሜሌክ ልጅ፣ ካህኑ አብያታር፥ (1 ሳሙ 22፡20) ፣ ከኤሊ በመቀጠል አራተኛ የሆነ ታላቅ ካህን ነው። ዳዊት ከሳዖል ፊት በተሰደደ ጊዜ አብሮት ተሰዷል። (1ሳሙ 23:9፥ 30:7 ፥ 2 ሳሙ2:1፥ 5:19)
