The name ‘Saph’ is deriven from the root word ‘Sefa’ (ሰፋ) ፥ The meaning is ‘to enlarge, multiply, expand...’ / Ibid.

The son of the giant whom Sibbechai slew, “.... then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.” (2 Sam 21:18)

ሸዓፍ ~Shaaph: ሰፍ፣ ሰፋ፣ ሰፊ፣ በዛ፣ ተራባ ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስም- ሳፍ]

‘ሰፊ’ ከሚለው ቃል የመጣ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ ሁለት ሰዎች አሉ።

1.                  የያህዳይ ልጅ፥ “ሐራንም ጋዜዝን ወለደ። የያህዳይም ልጆች ሬጌም፥ ኢዮታም፥ ጌሻን፥ ፋሌጥ፥ ሔፋ፥ ሸዓፍ ነበሩ።” (1 ዜና 2:47)
