The root word for ‘Ephrath’ is ‘Ye’Frieyat’ (የ’ፍሬያት) ፥ The meaning is ‘fruitful, doublefruited...’ / Ibid

The second wife of Caleb, the son of Hezron, mother of Hur, and grandmother of Caleb, “And when Azubah was dead, Caleb took unto him Ephrath, which bare him, Hur.” (1 Ch 2:19, 50); who was one of those that were sent to spy the land, “And they journeyed from Beth–el; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour” (Gen 35:16, 19; 48:7)

ኤፍራታ ~Ephrath: የፍሬያት፣ ያፍራት፣ ያብዛ፣ ያበርክት ማለት ነው። [ተዛማጅ ስሞች- ኤፍሬም፣ ኤፍሮን፣ ኦፊር፣ ፉራ፣ ፍሬ]

‘ፍሬያት’ ከሚለው ቃል የተገኘ ስም ነው።

1.                  ያዕቆብ ከቤቴል ሲመለስ ያረፈበት ቦታ፥ “ከቤቴልም ተነሡ ወደ ኤፍራታም ሊደርሱ ጥቂት ሲቀራቸው ራሔልን ምጥ ያዛት፥ በምጡም ተጨነቀች።” (ዘፍ 35፡16)

2.                  የካሌብ ሚስት፥ “... ካሌብም ኤፍራታን አገባ እርስዋም ሆርን ወለደችለት።” (1 ዜና 2:50) ፣ የቤተ ልሔም አባት፥ (1 ዜና 4:4)
