Elkanah ~ ሕልቃና: God-created / EBD; God the zealous; the zeal of God / HBN, “Elkanah” means God-provided / SBD, (ዘጸ 6፡24)

The name ‘Elkanah’ is derived from ‘El’ (ኤል) and ‘Kane’ (ካነ) ፥ the meaning is ‘performed by the almighty lord’ / Ibid.

The sons of Korah; “And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites.” (Ex 6:24)

Other people with the same name are: A descendant of the above in the line of Ahimoth, otherwise Mahath (1 Chr 6; 26, 35; Heb 11:20); Another Kohathite Levite, father of Samuel the illustrious judge and prophet (1 Chr 6:27, 34);  (1 Sam 1:1, 4, 8, 19, 21, 23) and (1 Sam 2:11, 20); A Levite (1 Chr 9:16); A Korhite who joined David while he was at Ziklag (1 Chr 12:6); An officer in the household of Ahaz king of Judah (2 Chr 28:7)

ሕልቃና ~Elkanah: ኤል ቀና፣ ለአምላክ የቀና፣ ለእግዚአብሔር ታዛዥ ማለት ነው።

‘ኤል’ እና ‘ቀና’ ከሚሉ ቃላት የተመሠረተ ስም ነው።

በዚህ ስም የሚታወቁ አምስት ሰዎች አሉ።

1.                  እግዚአብሔር ከግብፅ ምድር ካወጣቸው፥ የቆሬ ልጅ፥ ሕልቃና፥ “የቆሬ ልጆች አሴር፥ ሕልቃና፥ አብያሳፍ ናቸው...”  (ዘጸ 6፡24) ፣ (1 ዜና 6 ፣ 26 ፣ 35)

2.                  የነብዩ ሳሙኤል አባት፥ ሕልቃና፥ (1 ዜና 6:27፣ 34)

3.                  የሌዊ ወገን፣ የአሳ አባት፥ ሕልቃና፥ (1 ዜና 9:16)

4.                  ቆርያዊው፥ ሕልቃና፥ (1 ዜና 12:6)

5.                  የይሁዳ ንጉሥ የአሐዝ የቤቱ አዛዥ የነበር፥ በዝክሪ የተገደለ፥ ሕልቃና፥ (2 ዜና 28:7)
